Somatic Sensual Intelligence is a transformative training integrating movement, somatic psychology, and nervous system physiology to support helping professionals—therapists, case managers, healthcare workers, fitness professionals, educators, and facilitators—in reconnecting with the innate wisdom of their bodies.
Our bodies hold the key to moving beyond our pain and trauma, not by analyzing it, but by stepping into the joy and presence that awakens something greater in us. When we embody that aliveness, we don’t just change ourselves, we invite the people around us into a new way of being.
Is it a lack of tools—or a reflection of something deeper in you?
Of course it’s both.
Many of us are drawn to helping professions not only by compassion, but by something more tender: a personal history, a wound, a longing to heal what once felt unholdable. We learn to help others through what our own wounds have taught us.
It’s JOYFUL to transcend our pain and help others, but not because we’re tending the wounds. The wounds aren’t the focus, they’re just the work that needs doing on the path of our shared aliveness.
You’re here because you’ve longed for the best methods to help people grow; because you want to have a positive impact on the people you support.
You’re a visionary!
And of course, it actually starts with you.
As healers, we always have to do the work in ourselves first.
Fully present and embodied, you are better able to serve.
But what does this mean?
Bodies both move and feel. Much of the training around somatic psychology brilliantly engages with feeling. This training will help you move in order to feel more deeply.
You become a living space of authenticity that invites others to do the same.
This course is not just about learning new tools. It’s about becoming the tool. It’s about reclaiming your body as your most powerful instrument of healing, presence, and truth.
In many mind-body trainings, movement is the missing piece.
While somatic psychology has made great strides in cultivating awareness and sensitivity to the body, it often emphasizes passive sensation over active, conscious movement.
It is how we express, release, and rewire our minds and bodies. It’s how we access choice, and agency. And, it’s therefore how we become more fully joyful in ourselves.
At the same time, many movement disciplines—such as yoga, dance, and fitness—have been stripped of their psychological depth. The emotional, relational, and nervous system intelligence that underlies movement has often been left out, leaving practitioners with powerful tools but little understanding of why they work or how to apply them in trauma-informed, therapeutic contexts.
Somatics is an experiential study of having and being a body, through movement and awareness.
Sensuality is about sensing and feeling. The whole spectrum of sensing and feeling.
Feeling is how we know we’re alive.
Through sensuality, we connect to our pleasure through movement and awareness.
We learn to use pleasure as a resource and guide, listening to the intrinsic intelligence of our body. We use pleasure not to bypass or avoid pain, but rather to give us the strength and joy to meet it head on.
This is the deepest access to our vitality.
Let’s acknowledge that this goes directly against what we’ve been taught through many of our underlying cultural narratives.
We have learned that pleasure is dangerous, distracting, and the cause of addictions.
This is actually false pleasure, resulting from a culture of disconnection.
But just like we can move from junk food to genuine nutrition, and gain the joy of real food, we can move from distraction to feeling in the body to gain the joy of our life force.
Authentic pleasure is the form of this intelligence, and movement is the path through which we can find it.
There’s a good reason why we avoid feeling.
If we’re willing to feel, we’ll have to feel both the pleasure and the pain.
Typically, we’ll avoid pain and seek pleasure.
Turning this on its head, if we’re willing to feel the pain that comes with presence, it inevitably reveals pleasure in time. Being willing to feel it all is the basis for integrity and that feels good.
So, why feel? It is the celebration of our vitality and the fuel for our individual and collective transformation.
In psychology, Eros is the drive toward life--toward connection, vitality, and creation.
Eros is the pulse of life. It animates movement, fuels connection, and brings your work alive.
Athletes channel it into flow states. Artists create from it. Helping professionals attuned to it can feel into the exact edge of what’s alive in the room.
You’ll learn to sense and engage with this vital life force—so you can move, feel, and relate with a sense of inner aliveness that is both powerful and contagious.
Let’s be clear–this absolutely includes your sexuality, but isn’t about sex. It’s about your aliveness.
Somatic Sensual Intelligence is grounded in the science of movement, and connected to somatic psychology and nervous system physiology.
You’ll gain a clear understanding of:
• How trauma and stress are stored and expressed in the body
• The role of the autonomic nervous system in movement, healing and regulation
• How movement supports neuroplasticity, emotional integration, and embodied safety
This knowledge will be woven directly into movement practices, so you can feel and apply it in real time.
You’ll learn to track your own nervous system, recognize patterns in others, and use movement to support regulation, connection, and transformation in yourself and those you support.

Somatic Sensual Intelligence is designed to restore you, not overload you, by meeting you right where you are.
• This course is made up of both synchronous (live zoom meetings) and asynchronous (recorded content) elements. This allows you to learn from the comfort of your own space and engage when and how it serves you best.
• Learning to move on your own is often less threatening in an online space, where you can focus on yourself without worrying about others. The bridge to moving with others will be emphasized in the retreat.
• You’ll also join with people around the world in real-time, over the length of the course, to cultivate and build relationships leading up to the (optional) in-person retreat in November.
• You'll learn the skill of strengthening presence and effectiveness in an online space, which is crucial for those who host remote or online work.
15-minute videos, 2-3x per week designed for gentle, transformative daily practice.
Weekly theory exploration videos apply the core principles of BraveSpace (listed below), along with somatic psychology and nervous system physiology to your journey and guide you in your work with clients.
These live community zoom sessions will be theory and movement focused and customized to your specific needs. We will practice and apply what you are learning each week. There will be time for questions and to integrate your learning.
You'll be part of a lively cohort walking this path together.
You will be organized into small groups that meet weekly to support each other through the journey, practice what you're learning, and gain experience in facilitating for others.
With this experience, you'll begin integrating what you're learning in the course directly into your practice with clients and have the support you need to be successful.
All Community Movement Sessions will be recorded and posted on a central portal.
One Individual somatic coaching session with Matthew or Kristy is included in the course for personalized guidance and deeper transformation. Additional sessions are available.
Personal hands-on bodywork retreats with Matthew are also available.
The retreat will be the bridge from doing this work at home to sharing it in community. We are both individual and communal beings, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the physicality of our social environment together. The retreat will take each one of the things you have learned in the course and solidify it in real-life experience. Honestly, we’ve been told by previous participants in the Sensual Intelligence class that it should be required. We’ll leave that to you, but you’re encouraged to cross the bridge.
Logistically, activities include somatic embodiment exercises, movement practice, relational exploration, and time to practice facilitation of course materials with others from the course. We will be meeting in a non-residental setting in Madison, WI. Coordination of food and accommodations will be provided, but not included.
BraveSpace is not just a concept, it is a living practice that guides this journey. These 10 principles serve as touchstones, helping us cultivate embodied presence, relational integrity, and the freedom to fully express ourselves:
Our bodies hold the key to moving beyond our pain and trauma, not by analyzing it, but by stepping into the joy and presence that awaken something greater in us. When we embody that aliveness, we don’t just change ourselves, we invite the people around us into a new way of being.
BraveSpace emerged from this knowing, that when we embody our aliveness, we awaken those around us. These 10 principles are the foundation of that journey. This course is an offering of that knowing, a pathway to reclaiming our embodied authenticity, our shared belonging, and our divine erotic aliveness.
Matthew Nelson is a somatic shaman. That might sound preposterous—and it should. Self-proclaimed shamanism ought to be held with deep skepticism. And yet, it’s the most direct way to describe a path that has wound through contemporary dance, choreographic practice, hands-on healing, and embodied transformation.
With over 25 years in somatic therapies and movement education, Matthew weaves together the science of movementand the mystery of presence. He holds an MFA in Modern Dance, and certifications in Laban Movement Analysis, Massage Therapy, and Pilates, along with advanced training in Craniosacral and Myofascial techniques. He spent five years in a modern mystery school, studying energy, embodiment, and the unseen forces that shape us.
Matthew has been a professional dancer, choreographer, professor, healer, father, and occasional homeless wanderer. Today, he is devoted to holding BraveSpace® where life force can move freely, where authenticity becomes healing, and where we remember that we belong.
He supports people in awakening their vitality, not as something to fix or force, but as a natural emergence of life moving through the body. His work honors the intelligence of sensation, the power of presence, and the erotic current that underlies all true aliveness. In a world often disconnected from the body, Matthew invites a return—to feeling, to flow, and to the sacredness of being fully here.

A Message From Kristy:
I joined the most recent cohort of the Somatic Sensual Intelligence course with the intention of evolving my personal movement practice. I didn’t think I would learn much that I didn’t already know from my prior training in yoga and somatics. I was so wrong! I realized how transformative and healing sensual movement is, and how much I was doing a disservice to myself and my clients by leaving it out of my clinical practice. As I went deeper into my own body and began bringing somatic sensual movement into sessions with clients, I recognized how my background in somatic psychology and understanding of the nervous system was a useful framework for integrating movement into clinical practice. This is how a collaboration with Matthew was born. I’m so excited to share the magic of joining sensual movement and somatic psychology!
"Matthew helps to raise the level of connection with the self, and with the collective."

Now, I bring that expertise to women over 50, helping them achieve radiant, healthy skin and feel confident in their appearance, all from the comfort of their own homes.
I’ve seen too many amazing women feel frustrated and disappointed by skincare products that over-promise and under-deliver.
I’ve also seen too many women who love the idea of natural skincare but struggle to find products that actually work—feeling overwhelmed by complicated routines and products that don’t fit their budget or lifestyle.
That’s why I’m here to change that.
My purpose is to empower you with a simple, effective skincare routine that truly transforms mature skin, so you can feel beautiful, confident, and empowered without breaking the bank or losing time to endless routines.
You deserve to look and feel your best. Let’s make it happen together, naturally and affordably.
Learn from
Kimberly Montgomery, Founder of
Pretty Over Fifty.
At 62, I looked in the mirror and thought,
who is that old lady?
I didn’t recognize myself.
I wanted to make a change, to feel confident in my skin again, but I knew I wasn’t interested in Botox, fillers,
or doctor’s visits.
I wondered... Is it really possible to make a real difference with affordable, at-home products?
I wanted a solution that was simple, natural, and effective.
And as I explored hundreds of products and routines, I realized: other women would want
this information, too.
So, I set out on a journey to understand skincare—what actually works without breaking the bank.
And after plenty of trial and learning, I found that there are simple, effective ingredients that can dramatically change mature skin in just 90 days!
There’s no magic potion, no hundred-dollar jar required. Skincare doesn’t have to be complex or confusing; it’s about using natural ingredients that truly nourish and transform your skin.
Now, I help others achieve the same results I did, guiding them step-by-step. Because every woman deserves to feel beautiful in her skin—without the hefty price tag.
Most skincare companies are going to try to sell you a very expensive product and swear it's the magic potion. And the truth is, it's just not.
There are basic ingredients that can dramatically improve your skin for a fraction of the cost of high-end products.
Most women are sold on expensive products that aren't going to give them the results they're looking for, but you don't have to be.
It all comes down to a simple formula that nourishes your skin with natural, effective ingredients that your skin will thank you for!
